I'm trying to get Sierra's old NASCAR Racing 2 to run on Windows XP.

The problem is a crash that dumps the following text to the screen:

I get this error message whether or not I run it with VDMSound.

(Incidentaly, the configuration program runs just fine).

Any help would be fabulous.

Or try replacing that DOS/4GW module with DOS32A (search the forum or the Wiki for instructions on how to do that).

Edit: I'm feeling genours today:

It'll work in DOSBox but way too slow. If you get anywhere keep us posted!

My PC spec: Win10 64bit, i7-4970K (not overclocked), KFA2 GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER, Creative Soundblaster ZXr, 16GB RAM, Asus Z97-A motherboard, NZXT 410 case, ROG Swift GSYNC monitor

The 4GW extender probably isn't compatible with the XP stub. I've seen this before. Don't have the game but you should try the above suggestions...especially the DOS32A one.

You could also try MS VPC or DosBox.

An update:

With an arcane combination of NOLFB, DOS32A, and VDMSound, I have gotten the game to tell me I don't have enough conventional memory to play.

I have to assume this is good news; usually it quits long before it even bothers to check my memory.

[sigh] Buckets of RAM, and my life is still controlled by 640K of dumb conventional memory...

Update: A little more tinkering with my VDMS settings (increasing the amount of Expanded Memory available), and now it works perfectly, at full speed and everything. Neat.
