I have a list of Alt-Codes for special characters in DOS. As I was holding down the Alt key and typing in random numbers to see what I could produce, somehow a table popped up with the special characters listed. It also displayed the 3-digit number for each symbol as you moved around in the box. I don't believe this is a part of the software I was in at the time. It seems to be a feature built into DOS, or the Edit command, or something like that.

Does anyone know the key command to get this list of special characters again?

Version of DOS? What editor were you using?

This wasn't a feature of MS-/PC-DOS, but many text editors do have such a table (e.g. the FreeDOS editor, which is also named 'Edit').
