Alrighty, I don't remember the name of the user that posted it, but there was an extensive FAQ on getting SS1 to run with VDMS and such. Well, I followed the guide to the letter, but I still have the same problem.

What must I do to circumvent/remedy this problem?

Basic Info (format taken from "Follow These Guidelines When Submitting Help Request)

* I don't know what motherboard.
* Pentium 4 2.0 Ghz
* 256 MB DDR SDRAM
* Video card: NVidia GeForce 420Go
* I don't know what soundboard
* WinXP Home
* System Shock
* When I start CDSHOCK, the game crashes and says:

The systen cannot open COM1 port requested by the application.
* Problem always occurs
* Midi music, Soundblaster Digital Sound
* OpenGL
* VDMSound 2.0.4, DosBOX 0.63
* As said before, I followed the detailed FAQ on getting it to work, but to no avail.
