I set up dos drivers on dosmode under windows 98 using Phils dosstart PIF file.
but with all games using CD audio tracks the drive won't play any tracks, its not muted and the passthrough cable is connected to the soundacrd.
its just that the drive its not playing the tracks.
Using VIDECDD.SYS and MSCDEX.
The Drive is a NEC DVD drive that I took out of a 2001ish Era Pentium 4 machine. I can get the exact model number later.
Maybe its too new?

What sound card do you have installed?
Check the pinout of the cable to that on your sound card. I recently built up my old PC and realised that the pin header on my old Sound Galaxy sound card didn't match that of the CD-ROM drive (which later became standardised).
A multimeter should be able to confirm which pin is ground - you then just have to confirm which are your left and right channels.
In my case, it was easier to just swop out the connectors on the CD-ROM drive side as those use the standard DuPont connector.
