Ok so i have downloaded Red alert uesing BT and i have been and unzipped all the files ect. So unlike most people who have been trying to run red alert i am not running it from a CD but i have no idea how to get this to install.

I have mounted (or so i think) my c drive and the folors containg red alert but no matter what commands i try i cann't seem to get the setup started. I can get the setup started in command prompt, but as we know that wont give me a DOS shell! 😵

So i would appriciated if someone could run me through some lines of DOS code.

The main directory where red alert is

C:\RED ALERT ALL\
and each CD has its own directory too, so its

C:\RED ALERT ALL\RED ALERT CD 1
&
C:\RED ALERT ALL\ RED ALERT CD 2

all of the setup files are loacted within the directories, but as i said above i cant get them to run. Any help will be appriciated!

Ok, i mangaed to mount it correctly!

as mount c "c:\red alert all\red alert cd 2\ setup"

that got me mounted i then type setup.exe
and i then get the error cann't read setup.mxi from cd-rom.

It should be easier to do...

- Copy all installation files to C:\redinst
- mount c c:\
- mount d c:\redinst\ -t cdrom -usecd 0

INSTALL

PS - I remind you that using BT to download copyrighted material is ILLEGAL.

Long filenames (anything longer than 8 letter/number characters, a period, and 3 more letter/number characters) and filenames with spaces are not supported under real DOS and thus not in DOSBox.

Here I'll say it before someone else comes in. 😁

You can mount directories longer than 8.3 filenames in DosBox but it's not recommended. It sort of implies to the unknowledgeable user that DosBox does support Long File Names....when it doesn't (only for mounting!). It's best just to use 8.3 character filenames in all cases.

So no "C:\This is my red alert directory isn't it grand"
it should be
"C:\RedAlert"

Well i lie, it kind of starts it loads the text that says, DOS red alert ect. and then it seems as like it attempts to load it. But the screen just stays black.

You have to use DOS32a with C&C. You have to bind it in the .dat file, IIRC. I'll have to check my compatibility list.
