Hello,
I'm trying to run Screamer 2 on Cyrix 6x86 CPU and i get DOS/4G error <2002> (screen in attachment).
Running in the real Dos mode hangs after displaing massage : Starting 16 MB version

Back in the day i heard someware that Screamer 2 is unsupported by Cyrix, but today i cant find any information about this.
Does anone also tried to run it on Cyrix?

My system is:
6x86 PR150
A-trend 430TX motherboard
64 MB Ram
Windows 95 OSR2

If I'm correct, Screamer 2 uses real 3D models which means it needed a processor with good FPU.

How are you trying to run this game? Did you do a proper installation from the CD, use a rip version or perhaps the GOG version?

Some games that required a Pentium would do a CPUID instruction check during installation or before running and if your processor lacked that (like the early 6x86 CPUs) then it would refuse to install/run or at least warn you that the game will not run because it thought you were using a 486. I seem to recall FF VII crashing due to this, but it was patched out eventually. Most games got patches to fix that issue, as it was pretty silly.
I can't recall if Screamer 2 ever had such a patch, but provided that you are sure your copy of the game runs fine on other systems and that your system is fine otherwise, I'd give the replacement DOS extender DOS32A a go. Replace DOS4GW with that and see if it makes a difference.

Actualy I am trying to run demo of S2 (on my Pentum II it runs without issue) , but i have also full cd version of Screamer Rally, which based on the same game engine as S2. In Screamer Rally on Cyrix i get the same error as on S2demo .
I have CPUID enabled. Screamer setup tool detects CPU as Pentium 120 MHz.
Thanks for advice with DOS32A, good to know it for future. In my case now game hangs on starting 16 mb version in windows.[*]

I had no idea you could do that. How is this achieved? Have you tried disabling it to see if that makes the game run properly?

Did you try to install the patch?

Beside that, I see alot of old Usenet posts with the same issue as you're describing.

It's much less FPU deficiency and more like accidental vendor lock-in. Early Cyrix 6x86s were excluded out of some "Pentium" games out of false 486 judgment, like early builds of MDK for example before they replaced the poor detection with a brief benchmark to allow 6x86 (and souped up 486DX4s) in. Sometimes this assurance for a Pentium means calling an instruction that wasn't forseen on others. The other big game that did this mistake was Unreal on initial release

I have tried GOG Screamer 2 ISO + patch mentioned by vetz + DOS32A and i've got Screamer 2 partially running 😀
Intro logos and Race appears and runs really smooth (VGA) on PR150, unfortunately when I press any key to enter menu game crash.
It works only directly from Windows 95.

There isn't any difference without CPUID enable/disable. It runs and crash in the same place.
