Thought this would be a nice easy one to get running going by the various guides on the net but turns out that's not the case.

Windows 8 - Game won't even start, just flashes up briefly and closes.
Windows 7 - Game starts but menu colours and cutscenes are corrupt and have bad colours. In game it looks okay though if you can make it that far (pretty hard to tell what you're doing on the menus).

I installed the game by first installing it on an XP VM then copying the files and registry keys from my XP virtual machine. I also tried some of the alternative installation instructions around the web but didn't get far with them.

I've tried

Unofficial patch (http://www.jkhub.net/project/show.php?projid= … ction=downloads)
Hacked DDraw (http://www.jkhub.net/project/get.php?id=1804)
Converting the game to use the WineD3D wrappers (on 8 only)
Killing Explorer before starting the game
Running as admin/various compatibility options

Anyone had better luck with this one?

Get the GOG version and apply the first patch from here: http://www.gog.com/forum/star_wars_dark_force … s_for_all/page1

I played through Mysteries of the Sith for the first time on Win8.1 x64 just a few hours ago 😀. I haven't had any success with the Steam version and I've never really tried my retail version on modern systems. It's definitely a finicky game and all of its issues would be easily fixable if we had access to the source code. Unfortunately, this has been allegedly long lost, so even the GOG guys have to sidestep the problems 🙁.

You could try the new Installshield wrapper to install the game directly.

OT, but does the GOG version have CD music for MoTS?

Ok thanks I'll give that a go at some point soon. Good old LucasArts and their old PC games always a hassle 🤣

Sweet. I'll probably buy that version instead of fiddling with more retail CD stuff. Thanks for telling me!
