Resident Evil 1 PC - ingame files game crash

Postby Hardcore » 2018-10-07 @ 16:06

Hello everybody, finally got RE 1 working for PC under Win7 but still having one issue with the 1.0c version and Peixoto's Patch. Maybe someone knows what to do. I can't take any ingame files in the game. I also watched some actual PC walkthroughs to see if other people can take the files but they all ignore them.

When I try to take a file, for example the Botany Book, I get an error and the game crashes with this error message:

Debug Assertion Failed!
Program: C:\PROGRA~2\CAPCOM\RESIDE~3\NEWEUR.exe
File: fopen.c

Expression: *file != _T('\0')

For information on how your program can cause an assertion
failure, see the Visual C++ documentation on asserts.

(Press Retry to debug the application)

No matter if I click on "Abort", "Retry" or "Ignore", the game crashes then.

So I'm stuck now.
In the guardhouse you have to replace the book in the room 003. When I try to take it from the bookshelf I get that error again because it's also file to read. So what to do now? Anyone can help? :(

Edit: Just removed the patch-files and restarted Peixoto's Help.exe with the standard Resident Evil.exe. Now I can collect all Files and the language keeps german. So it was clearly a language error. Just a problem with language of the patch and the original language.
