Why is my graphic card displays weird lines beside text?

I assume you have uploaded the wrong picture.

Lines on the screen can be bad video memory. Or they can be due to overheating. Also try updating the video drivers.

Is this too much voodoo?

The fault can be your monitor or your cable too. Since I cant see any lines in this photo, this should be either of the mentioned.

If GPU rendered the lines because of a driver/hardware issue, then there would be other side effects like DirectX apps crashing, and even display driver should crash. The PC can also freeze for this.

Do you have another monitor to try? What about another video card?

That picture you posted looks fine.

Is it ghosting? If so, then you either have a super crappy VGA cable and/or the video card has a crappy DAC.

What are the specs of the rest of the system?

Do you have a better image of what's happening as the picture you posted looks perfect.
