hey is there a reason a Micosoft made game wont run in XP?

anyways heres the problem,

after a try to launch the game, all that happens is the begining art pops up (not the launcher). And thats it, it doesnt go beyond that. Also when i ctrl+alt+del it does not show in my active programs.

System Specs,

AMD 1800xp
Soyu Dragon Ultra Mobo
512 DDR
GeForce 4200 128
Windows XP obviosly 😉

anyways plz help

ps i also have this problem with StarLancer, another older M$ game...

Because it was made for Windows 9x, which is significantly different from XP. Really. That's all it takes, it seems.

While other people have had some problems, I haven't heard of anyone with this problem.

You might want to confirm that your CD is still good by testing it on a friend's PC, especially if they're using Windows 98.

You might try changing video resolution and disabling and shutting off EAX if you're using it, as suggested here:

It apparently also has a stick problem in XP. Appears that Starlancer running in XP is pure "chance":

It doesn't appear that there were any patches for Starlancer:

I can't run CS with hardware video either.
Software works fine but looks superpixelly, hardware gives graphic errors on text.
XP pro, geforce 8600. Tried 98 compatibility-crashes, tried 2000 compatibility-text glitches, tried setting desktop graphics all over the place-no help, disabled visual themes-no help.
