Watch out for PSU quality. Since it's a store bought computer the PSU is probably maxed out already.

Diamond makes a 256 meg HD 2400 DDR2 PCI card that only requires a 200 watt PSU. I saw it at microcenter.com. It is pricey though, $89.99. I've noticed that ATI cards have lower power requirements than nvidia cards. A pc from 2004 should have at least a 250 watt psu. My HP from 2002 had a 250 watt psu and my IBM from 2005 has a 300 watt psu. I added video cards to both of them with no adverse affects. The IBM has a PCI-e x16 slot though.

You should buy a new computer.

Will you stop repeating that nonsense? It doesn't help at all. Here are the game requirements:

800 MHz Pentium III
128 MB RAM
32 MB 3D video card
DirectX 9

And here are the specs of my Windows 98 machine:

750 MHz Pentium III
512 MB RAM
32 MB 3D video card
DirectX 8.1

Slightly below minimum requirements, and surprisingly (or not), the game works perfectly smooth.

@glyco0: have you tried to disable edge smoothing and shadows in the options menu?

Don't forget to reset videomode=1024x768x32 in agds.cfg file.
