Hello to all y'all!

It's Inferno here. I need some help with this game. I'm trying to work on getting Liath by Project Two Interactive to run on XP. I have the 3 patches for the game but when I try to install them I get an error message saying: "Liath cannot be found"
I tried installing them directly from My Download Folder ...that didn't work. I also tried from first putting them into my game folder. same error message is the result.

There seems to be an issue with my video card. After accessing the game from the CDROM DRIVE. The game will boot up however, The screen is split into 5 parts. I've tried lowering my Video Aceleration but it dosen't seem to help.
It seems to me to be the same problem as I had with Atlantis1
(although the patch offered by Cryro fixed it completely and that game worked like a charm on XP)

I have my screen resolution preset to 600X800/16bit color/75Hz

I've been using 95 compatibility, although I've tried 98 but that's not working for me either. Any Ideas???

Inferno
and my Specs are listed below.

Greetings.

It's Inferno here.

We have heard tales of you...how you heal the sick and the lame, how you....*pause*
Wrong guy. *ahem* We've heard how you came up with workable solutions for titles like 7th Guest.

I need some help with this game. I'm trying to work on getting Liath by Project Two Interactive to run on XP.

Afraid I won't be of much use as I never even heard of it until you mentioned it.

All I know of is this patch and apparently you already have that.

Other than the obvious "try other resolutions like 640x480", nope.

😁 Actually, I've secretly thought that was your area... But no, not me... since I'm female.... Mother Theres...oh now, never mind.
I've gotten a few titles to work. Some more suprizing than others.

Mayhap some of your colleages have.

Should I also raise the refresh rate?
Why would these patches give me the error message:
"Liath not found"?

Is there a particular setting I can change in my video card?

I thank you very much, Nicht Sehr Gut, anyway for your input
I have alot of respect for this board and only thought to ask as I'm totaly stumped on this one.😕

I assume you've A) tried running the patches from within the directory that Liath was installed, and B) tried appending the patch executable with the path to where Liath is installed?

Yes, it’s my fault.

Good Evening, Snover.

I appreciate your help.

Snover wrote:

Yes, I first downloaded them (I have 3) to a separate folder. ... I think the 3rd one is the one I need ,however.

Then I installed the game using the following:
Windows95 Compatibility
640X480 Screen resolution/256 colors (although this may be making double duty since if these are not checked the program will change to this setting automatically)
Disable visual Themes is checked
and so is Turn off advanced text services for this program.

After installation of the game I went to my downloaded patch folder. These files are .exe and all gave me the same error message "Liath not found" when running them from here.

Next I tried putting them into the "C:\ProgramFiles\Liath" game folder. Same Result.

...
and B) tried appending the patch executable with the path to where Liath is installed?

I'm not sure that I understand your meaning here.

So here's a really ignorant and truly uneducated question:
Do you mean for me to change the name of this file "patch_30.exe" to "Liath.exe" after placing it into the game folder? If the answer was yes ....I've alreay tried that and recieved the same error message.

Obviously I doing something wrong here. I just can't figure out what it is.

Has anyone played this game and used these patches?

Ok, so I was really wrong.

Should I also raise the refresh rate?

For a Windows title, I don't see that as having much of an effect.

Why would these patches give me the error message:
"Liath not found"?

Apparently, because they programmed a list of requirements in the patch to recognize a valid install...and something is not matching up on your PC.

Registry entry? Installation path? (some programmers simply presume you would never use anything other the default path) OS check? Who knows?

Is there a particular setting I can change in my video card?

Not being familiar with the program, I would only be taking wild guesses...

I thank you very much, Nicht Sehr Gut, anyway for your input I have alot of respect for this board...

Don't worry, that goes away after a while...*heh*

Snover: --> tried appending the patch executable with the path to where Liath is installed?

I think he means this:

If your game is in C:\FUN\LIATH, you would type:
patch_30.exe C:\FUN\LIATH

Obviously I doing something wrong here. I just can't figure out what it is.

Don't be too sure...it could be a number of things:
Magic, Radiation, Magic Radiation, you've angered some Gypsy Mystics, etc...

Sorry, but Liath didn't works any method OR didn't patched (as "Liath not
found" error message pop up). I tried last PATCH_30.EXE C:\LIATH cmd
but also failed (as I installed C:\LIATH folder last)

EDIT
The game seems to be works BUT do not visible correctly, looks like a
bad Video driver. I remember LBA2 1st on my newly WinXP installed
WITHOUT THE LBA2 100% PROPER WinXP FIX, Liath seems like same
problem with modern video cards.

IF somebody installed the Patch v3, please Upload the Fixed files to any
ShareServer (Rapidshare/Speedshare). Maybe this is NOT illegal...

O.K. I found the right method (Thanx to TheWarlord for the instructions!!)
SEARCH the LIATH.LNK file in YOUR C:\Documents and Settings path and
COPY your WindowsXP OS directory \STARTUP path (if not in there make
a path named \STARTUP (e.g. needs C:\WINDOWS\STARTUP\LIATH.LNK file).
After this start PATCH_30.EXE from anywhere on HDD, the updatepatch
WILL found your Liath game path, next make the patches and the game
will works!!!!!!!!!!
