I've got the Steam version of the game. It used to work, but now when I launch it, the loader console appears for a split second, the screen goes black, then grey, and then crashes to the desktop with:
"An unhandled win32 exception occurred in WolfSP.exe [1556]."

I've tried turning on the extension limit through nHancer, which I found is necessary for a number of Quake II engine games. It didn't do anything. Then I noticed it's an option in the NVIDIA control panel once again, but it still didn't do anything.

Quake III works just fine, incidentally.

Do you have a Glide wrapper installed? RTCW has problems hacking around some Voodoo detection bug.

I don't know how anyone could have known that off-hand, but you solved it!

Actually, I don't remember ever installing a Glide wrapper on this particular system. I'd always used dgVoodoo which you can just dump into the game's local path. But sure enough, C:\Windows contained glide2x.dll and glide3x.dll, and removing them makes RTCW work again. I wonder how they got there. I know the GOG version of Interstate '76 comes with a Glide wrapper. Maybe it auto-installs the wrapper?

Zeckensack dumps glide2x and glide3x there I think.

I heard that I76 uses OpenGlide which only has glide2x.
