Trying to get The Space Bar game to run

I don't know if anyone here has played this game successfully on a computer with a operating system after Windows 95 but hopefully someone can me out with this.

The Space Bar installer doesn't allow you to install the game unless you're running Windows 95, however in their readme they suggest an alternative way of running the game by bypassing the installer. I'll copy the instructions, I followed them(except for the DirectX bit as it already has version 8 or 8.1 installed) and at the time was using Windows 2000 Professional via VMware Workstation as my normal OS is Windows XP. I've heard good things about Microsoft's VM program but annoyingly it doesn't support the Home 32bit version of Windows XP. I chose to try and play it via Windows 2000 Professional because the instructions were targeted for a NT OS and more importantly I didn't want to screw up my XP registry.

The installation program will not run under
Windows NT. You can bypass the installation
program by taking the following steps:

* Copy the spacebar folder found on Disk 1 onto your
hard drive
* Open the Registry Editor window by double-clicking
on Regedit, a program in your Windows directory.
* Open the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder.
* Open the SOFTWARE folder.
* Create a new folder in the SOFTWARE folder called
Rocket Science. Open this new folder.
* Create a new folder in the Rocket Science folder
called The Space Bar. Open this new folder.
* Create a new folder in The Space Bar folder called
1.0. Open this new folder.
* Under the Edit menu, select New; under the
sub-menu, select String Value. A new Registry Key
will be created called "New Value #1." Change the
name of this new key to "InstallCode".
* Click on the new InstallCode key to highlight it.
Under the Edit menu, select Modify. In the
resulting dialog box, type "1" and click the
Okay button.
* Repeat Steps 8 and 9 to create another Registry
Key called "InstallPath". Modify it to give it a
data field of "c:\spacebar"
* Repeat Steps 8 and 9 to create a third Registry
Key called "HomeDir". Modify it to give it a
data field of "d:\" (assuming that your CD-ROM
drive is called d:).
* Install DirectX 3.0 by opening the Directx folder
on Disk 1 and running Dxsetup.exe.

I tried to run the game but it said there wasn't enough space for save games(it seems it's just reading the space on the CD ROM drive), so I tried changing the data field of my CD ROM to c:\ but that didn't change the issue. Tried copying all the contents from the CD ROM drive to the C folder to try and match the change I made from the reg directions but it still says it doesn't have enough room for save games and the disk has more than enough.

Yes the drive has more than 2 Gig of space on it.

I cannot get the game to work via that program to work. I tested the file but it keeps displaying the same message. I've attached images for the options I chose in the program and the error message it comes up with(the same when trying to run the game in general). I even tried to use the program to set the OS as Windows 95 on the installer file on the disc but it didn't work when I tested it either.

I finally got the game to work. 😎
I used EASEUS Partition Master Home Edition to create a new partition that was just under 2 gig in size and changed the reg install path to f:\spacebar However it was still asking me to use disk 2, turns out I needed to copy the entire 3 discs to the spacebar folder in f drive(at least just f drive but I did the latter because it seemed to make more sense). Anyway after that it loaded fine, after needing to change some display settings however but that's just how the game needs to run.

Thanks for the suggestion of the other program though.

no robertmo resolver only lies to the program you tell it to for example
c:\game\mygame.exe
and it creates a shortcut to the game that you have to use to invoke it
eg: run mygame with resplandant resolver.lnk

I know resolver has fixed the freespace problem for me in the past
