I am attempting to get an old game, designed for Windows 95 to run on my Windows XP machine, SP3. The game is called, The Hive.

Here is the problem:

When I let autoplay start, or when I start any of the applications on the disc in an attempt to get the installation going, (with the exception of one - to be talked about later), I get a strange error message...

SUNMAPLS_IP_EBP_12 can't load in KERNEL32.dll

Here is what I have tried so far:

- All the compat modes
- Turning off various Direct X Functions

Nothing seems to work. Now when I try an application called HIVEPLYR, the program proceeds to load the game and allows me to play. But, it loads everything except the background moving image. You see The Hive is a rail shooter, so basically the player shoots space ships in the foreground while the background movie is supposed to play.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

The only 100% solution is - ViptualPC + Windows 98/Me as guest OS.
*peep**censored*this *peep*Necrosoft...

Asus P4P800 SE/Pentium4 3.2E/2 Gb DDR400B,
Radeon HD3850 Agp (Sapphire), Catalyst 14.4 (XpProSp3).
Voodoo2 12 MB SLI, Win2k drivers 1.02.00 (XpProSp3).

and what do you do if there are no win98/me drivers for your gfx card ?

Very good points.

I was actually thinking that was a codec problem of some sort.

No one for the Win9x. So, if you have the Win9x only game with D3D or OGL - the only choice is to build retro PC. Again, *censored**peep* Bill Gates and Necrosoft.

The Hive do not use D3D by the way.

VirtualPC do not emulate legacy videocard? For Win95/98/ME?

I think his point was that if one has a Win9x only game with D3D or OGL, installing Win9x on one's computer is not an option if one's video card has no Win9x drivers. As you say, the only choice in that instance is to build a retro PC.
