Hiya

I've installed High stakes and Hot pursuit on my retro PC. It installed perfectly but when I load it, it loads a black screen & then dump me back to windows before getting the intro going.

I've tried NFS: HS both unpatched & Patched with the 4.5 patch. Also Software render and d3d.

I'm not sure what I'm missing. Any Ideas? I do run Rollercoaster tycoon without a problem.

My specs:
PII 400Mhz
400MB Ram,
Geforce FX 5500 GPU
1x LG 8x CD-ReWriter
1x 52x LG CD-Rom
C-Media soundcard
DirectX 7
Win 98SE (Dutch) (With unofficial SP2.1a)

Your driver and DX version have to match for the most part. For example, Detonator/Forceware 2x.xx to 4x.xx for DX7/8, and 45.xx and above for DX9. You don't have a choice with the 5500 as that particular card was only supported from somewhere around driver version 56.xx. Even Directdraw is affected by this. You should be able to install DX9.0c without harming compatibility.
