Folks, you can fool around with the OS's compatibility settings, sound acceleration, DDRAW wrappers till your heart fails. But there is absolutely-definitely-categorically only ONE way to get VOTBA to run altogether stable with XP and up—and that requires Microsoft's cute little software called: application compatibility toolkit

Uhm, broadly speaking, I can give it you in a nutshell: it's a Windows 95 era game—use 'Win 95 compatibility mode' in ACT.
