I'm getting a strange error message ("You're screwed and we don't know why") while trying to run the installer on one of the Duke Nukem 3D: Kill-A-Ton Collection CDs. I've searched everywhere but could find only one other mention of this error. The laptop I'm using is running Windows XP with Service Pack 3. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

To take a completely wild guess, it sounds like some kind of copy protection thing. Are you running the installer as a user with Administrator privileges?

Anyway, since you're using XP, you might as well use one of the source ports.

I'm sorry if this is an old thread, but I thought I'd post an update.

1. The installer somehow stopped giving the error a few weeks ago. It went as far as copying the temporary setup files before complaining that the HDD is out of space. I've noticed that many old programs have this issue; it's probably because they weren't designed with modern hard drives in mind.

2. I decided to give it one last try earlier this afternoon, and the installation actually went all the way through. Even the Duke Xtreme installer (which was also having problems) worked. Very curious.

The only problem right now is that the Duke Xtreme front-end complains about being unable to find the CD. But as far as levels go, EDuke32 indeed works like a charm. 😀
