I just tried installing and running Black & White on a Virtual PC running Windows 98 SE. All I get is the splash logo and nothing else. The Task Manager doesn't show that it's not responding, but ... well, it isn't.
I'm not even sure where to start troubleshooting this one ...
That might be because Virtual PC doesn't emulate 3D acceleration, which you could have learned from reading the Wikipedia article, for instance...
The easiest solution for you would really be installing 98SE or XP on a second partition.
OK, now I feel foolish (X 2). I missed that about VPC not being 3D enabled, and discovered that Black & White *is* compatible with Windows 7. My bad.

I wouldnt call it 100% compatible with xp
it does seem to crash a fair bit
