Interesting findings there, I will need to look into this and update my own article. I didn't come across the 1.6 patch last time I played the game (a few months back), I wasn't able to get HDR working at all but everything else seemed ok.

If you are talking of this, be aware that game not only support EAX 2, but advanced HD to (which may be either 3 or 4). Also, 7.0 is the maximum
And there's 3Dsoundback for Realtek chips and Xear3D/GSDX for cmedia/asus cards

It wouldn't even be bad -I guess- if you mentioned the unofficial Enhanced Content Patch for 32 bit systems

Got a link to that patch?

Actually planning an overhaul of the legacy sound advice on my site to mention things like IndirectSound and 3Dsoundback. Not having access to that hardware means it's difficult to do tutorials but still should mention it.

To test ALchemy just check here. The others are somewhat briefly explained on PCGW (yeah, it's definitely not really well elaborate.. but you are free to contribute 😁)

And remember that albeit IndirectSound correctly restores DS hardware buffers (thus multichannel/positional audio on newer systems), EAX is not implemented (support is just faked)-

Do you really need a Intel Core Duo 2 to run this game? As i look on the back of the DVD case, i see that it needs:

Windows: 98-2000-ME-XP
1GHZ processor
256MB of Memory
Geforce 2 64MB / ATI 8500

And there is also an AMD64 logo on the back.

~ At least it can do black and white~

The target would be 60/120/144(depending on your monitor) minimum FPS for optimum performance.

At 1600x1200 4x aa 8x af, a 6800 Ultra on an a64 3400+ only averages 38 FPS: http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=1578&page=8

1600x1200 4x aa 8x af, 7800gtx sli on a fx-55 has a minimum of ~44 fps: http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Cards/N … iew/Far-Cry-v13

1600x1200 hdr + 16x af, a c2d x6800 with an 8800 ultra does a minimum 61 FPS: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/graphics/dis … -extreme_8.html

Setting to hdr ingame instead of aa is better as you can use post processing aa utilities like fxaatool to have both, though there's a possible performance hit so might need a little bit more cpu or gpu than a x6800/8800 ultra.

An 8800 ultra is a little faster than a 9800 gtx: http://www.hwcompare.com/3846/geforce-8800-ul … force-9800-gtx/

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/GeFor … 85_MARS/12.html

The difference between 1680x1050 and 1600x1200 is about the same between an 8800 ultra and 9800 gtx such that the fps should be about the same, so going from the x6800@3.0 to a 920@3.8 gives about +25%. Subtract 25% from the gtx 285 result, it'd do ~300 fps on an x6800, or 2x an 8800 ultra.

gtx 480 on an x6800, about 344 fps: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeF … 0_Fermi/14.html

(EAX emulation is being worked on though, and progress is being made! Someday... 😊 )

:\

Should we assume then that any driver under XP just shows it properly?

Hey Phil, did you ever get the 64 bit patch/content working with the community patch? Since the community patch needs 1.4 and 64 bit only installs on 1.33 I guess they're not compatible?

Pretty much. I don't think the 64 bit patch is worth it. 1.6 is my preference. The FCOM mod is a bit extreme and I really don't like the aim down sight weapons they added.

There's 64bit content port for 32 bit too

I just received the retail version (1.0) and loaded it on my "high-end" XP system: AMD Phenom II x4 940 / Geforce 9800GT / 4GB DD2 667 / XP Home 32-bit SP3

Just a few seconds into the actual game, the screen goes black, but I can still hear the sounds.

I patch the game to 1.4, and after a few seconds of gameplay, the screen freezes and then reappears with artifacting.

I decide to uninstall the 332.21 drivers because I finally found older versions. I installed 195.62, which appeared about a year after the 9800GT, I believe.

This time, I could play a little longer, but the screen froze again after a few minutes.

I am running 1600x1200 with high settings (no AA).

I'm pretty sure this is just a Far Cry issue because Doom 3 plays just fine on this system. All suggestions welcome!

There is an issue with newer drivers, but just textures being affected. Not crashing or anything like that.

The loading bug, with the black screen, is quite common under Windows 7, but I've never had it under XP.

Patch 1.4 makes enemies see you, and shoot at you, through tents and plants. So I recommend the http://www.farcrypatch16.de/

Maybe it fixes your other issues as well.

Thanks, I'll try it. I seem to need a password to download. Do you happen to know it?

If it doesn't work, I may do a fresh install of XP. I hate having to uninstall new drivers to install old ones; I'm never sure what is left over. Plus, I needed to install SP3 and NET Framework 4 to use the 332.21 drivers. Maybe I won't have to install those to use 195.62.
