Hi everyone, I have this problem with the game NFS 5 Porsche Unleashed:

On GeForce2 Ti 64MB i have a very low fps in this game aproximately 16-20fps, even at 800x600 low
I am using 30.82 nvidia driver, i have tried others also (29.x and 45.x versions) - the problem persists
Even Voodoo 2 SLI is running at full better than this 40fps+

Other DX7 games runs perfectly 1280x1024x32Bit Very High 60FPS+
is there some solution or patch for Geforce 2+ cards?

😕
Thanks a lot.

Yes of course, and another thing: In Video menu I dont have option to set up higher 32bit, than 1024x768, 16Bit is up to 2048 x 1536

There was a hack to setup 1024x768 resolution on V2SLI also run fine on other Voodoos to run game in Glide - try it. 😀

1.Open 3dsetup.ini and rewrite it by this:
under your card change line CARD_3dfx Voodoo 3 /M:dx /I to CARD_3dfx Voodoo 3 /M:voodoo2 /I
Run 3DSetup.exe again and choose your 3dfx voodoo card then check:

2.windows registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\Need for Speed - Porsche Unleashed and it should looks like that, if not rewrite it by this:
Entries:
Group: "Glide"
Trash driver: "Voodoo2"

Works just great with my Voodoo 3 3000AGP! 😊

Is Triple Buffer checked? About the resolutions, if you have a lot available, the game is able to show only a limited number.

Did this patch 6 years ago but it seems it is still floating on the Internet (have somehow lost it since then).

I have also done a LOD bias patch which corrected LOD on >2 GHz machines, but since there were so many versions of the game I've distributed it only as a manual patch (how to patch bytes at a specific offset). If you need the offsets you should decipher it from here: http://glizda.wordpress.com/2009/10/05/need-f … -cpu-lod-patch/ .

IIRC there is the ACT fix (HideDisplayModes) for the same purpose.

Asus P4P800 SE/Pentium4 3.2E/2 Gb DDR400B,
Radeon HD3850 Agp (Sapphire), Catalyst 14.4 (XpProSp3).
Voodoo2 12 MB SLI, Win2k drivers 1.02.00 (XpProSp3).

Good, somebody did a nice package with both fixes. Unfortunately I have never experienced the performance problems so I can't help you further. I've played Porsche on a GeForce with a PIII 700 back in these days, and it worked well.

This will also hide all widescreen resolutions. If your screen is wide, this is not useful.

Unpack the attached file and run this command: sdbinst -q NFS5.sdb
It installs HideDisplayModes and EmulateHeap ACT fixes for porsche.exe and porsche.icd.
Sdb files are created/edited by MS Application Compatibility Toolkit (ACT). So - google this program and tutorials for it.

If the game needs this ACT fix - it was developed w/o widescreen support. 4:3 only.

I tried in my K6-2 400 with a GeForce 256 DDR, using the same drivers, 30.82, and it's slow to, even at 640x480, using the SLI voodoos it's the same (but looks way worse)...

I can remember playing this back in the day with almost the same setup, at the time I had a slot1 pentium 2 500 instead of the K6-2.

No, it automatically hides all 16:9 and 16:10 modes. According to ACT, it's the default Win9x behaviour.
