I did a lot of searching for getting Outlaws to work on Windows 7, but haven't had much luck. People post about the game a bit here, but nothing has resolved my issue. So I decided to start my own thread and hopefully get a little more personalized tips, if that's ok?

So far I've downloaded the Sierra Help Pages installer that Collector has uploaded here in another thread. That installed the game without issues. I own the 2 CD jewel case version, and the readme shows that it's v.2.0 (after installation). Here's where the problems begin.

When I open up the configuration, I can only select between Direct Draw (Full Screen) and Window. Running the game in Window display mode works great, but there is no mouse support. Running the game in Direct Draw, no matter what resolution I select, gives me a black screen with a small, scribbled image in the top left corner. The only way to exit is if I alt-tab and force the game to close.

I am unable to install the 2.0.1 Update nor the D3D Patch that I've downloaded from PC Gaming Wiki.

Any suggestions?

It seems to be an alternative to a2d. Might work like alchemy for a3d. The a3d driver in outlaws always seemed to work for me without an Aureal card or wrappers.

Well awesome! This is working just great for me. I'll try the other suggested files for menus and A3D, but basically it's looks and plays excellently. Outlaws one of my all time favorite FPS - and one of the few games I *only* play with game music enabled..

EDIT: A3D-Live works great on my W7 setup, nice to have spacial audio back. I first tried extracting the files directly into my Outlaws folder for a 'portable' installation, but Aureal did not initialize in-game. After installing it to directly to Windows it runs. I wonder if there *is* a way to make it portable.

DXGL: Again I tried a portable installation by extracted the exe into the Outlaws folder. Ran the config.exe, navigated to Outlaws.exe, and the app worked fine. I corrects text corruption and lets you play with UI resolution - though even without it the UI is still pretty usable.

Thanks all.
