These aren't fixed yet, i.e. not caused by my water cooler USB cable(!). I just Googled about and found this: http://www.theisonews.com/forums/index.php?topic=52191.0 where someone has had the crashes on Win2000 and Win98, so it's NOT a Win8.1 thing.

I believe I had the demo for F1RC working though, either on my work Win7 64bit machine, OR on my home machine running Win7 64bit, I'm going to investigate further on this one...

Please can everyone(!) try this demo and let me know if it works? The installer just unzips the game to a folder, you don't even need to install anything into Windows! http://www.fileplanet.com/55761/50000/fileinf … ampionship-Demo

My results:

Fails:
- Home PC (spec in my signature) = crashes with errors above (NOTE: will double-check later, as the errors relate to the full games)

Works:
- Work PC (Win7 64bit, i7 870 3GHz, ATI Radeon HD 4600, AMD/onboard sound, 8GB RAM)
- Old home PC (WinXP 32bit, Pentium4 3.2GHz EE, Gainward GeForce 7800GS+, Creative Soundblaster Audigy ZS2, 3GB RAM

I got the same crash on the demo.

Then I replaced binkw32.dll version 1.9.99.0 (1.99a) of that file and it worked (and did not break video playback).

Bink's pretty known for compatibility issues.

Same thing with full version, except: intro video doesn't play. Track flybys still play though.

if you want intro videos might want to look for other bink versions, or other games with similar bink problems and see what solutions they come up with. I don't care, but now you know where to look 😀

Yeah you're right, it must be the version of Bink included, when it unloads after the intro video, crashes the game!

I'm researching now which of the multitude of Bink's I have with other games works better (if any). More news soon...

Okay solved it. Any 1.99 version of Bink will make the game work, but without video. However if you use version 1.8 (the newer version from 2007-2008 era) then the video will be visible! I have that dll with Juiced2 and Lost Via Domus.

Quick tip: if you run the game with CD protection (i.e. not a crack) then click on the CD check pop-up when it appears, otherwise the game may not boot fullscreen properly after the check pop-up disappears (not without using WinXP compatibility or something).

Second tip: apply Application Compatibility Toolkit option NoGDIHWAcceleration if on Win8 or 8.1 to get >30fps in-game.

p.s. the intro video may be a bit flickery, but at least it's there!

Sorry raise this one again, but just further on my crusade to get old F1 games working.

I basically bought a bunch off ebay and now today this one has arrived and i have it working using the advice above and it looks great - except for one thing, the in game pause menu is missing. - i kan use the arrow keys to select options (a bit of trial and error) but the graphic of the ingame pause menu is missing (it should appear when one presses escape) - is there a way i can fix this?

I am running the game on Windows 10 64bit.

also i noticed in the original FAQ it mentioned the game was tested on voodoo cards and with 3dfx drivers - is there any way to have the game work and recognise NGLIDE? this might fix the missing menu perhaps

cheers
Mitchell

Have you tried to use dgVoodoo? Or else you could use NGlide, I have had success with it in other games before.

Menus go missing if you run with fancy anti-aliasing on. If you use FXAA (I think) it works.
