F1 2000 & F1 Championship Season 2000 (EA) - crashes

Getting old Windows games working.

F1 2000 & F1 Championship Season 2000 (EA) - crashes

Postby VirtuaIceMan » 2015-2-23 @ 23:57

Seems I'm falling into a pit of failing F1 titles... F1 2000 doesn't do anything for me, even in software mode, just crashes with Event Viewer:
Code: Select all
Faulting application name: F1_2000.ICD, version: 1.0.9.0, time stamp: 0x3937d63a

It's crashing the .ICD due to the SafeDisc DRM on the disc, however if I swap to a no-CD it just crashes f1_2000.exe instead. Any ideas? This is using the 1.09 patch with or without ALchemy.

Moving on to the "sequel", F1 Championship Season 2000, I get the same sort of thing:
Code: Select all
Faulting application name: F1CS2000.ICD, version: 0.5.8.0, time stamp: 0x3a0720f1

I'm wondering if it could be related to graphics possibly, as the VIDEO.CFG for F1CS2000 has this. I'll compare it against my old XP machine at some point...

Strangely the older, similar engined game by ISI, Sports Car GT, works fine (though that uses Glide to run optimally)...

Someone had F1CS2000 working in software mode at least on Win7 http://isiforums.net/f/showthread.php/1 ... -windows-7

Ironically, F1 2002 and F1 Challenge 99-02 both work fine. F1 2002 uses DX8.1 but F1 2001 only uses DX8, maybe related, or might be the graphics card detection the older games use?

SafeDisc can easily be removed from older games with tools such as SafeDisc 2 Cleaner and UnSafeDisc
EDIT: wine had a similar problem too

It's not SafeDisc. Please try the F1 Championship Season 2000 demo: http://www.fileplanet.com/53038/50000/f ... -2000-Demo
Using dgVoodoo I can run it successfully in software mode at least, but if I turn up the texturing quality it crashes loading a race.

It works better on ATI than Nvidia; my work PC with ATI I can get into the race in hardware mode, but it required messing around applying DxWnd to the game executable (also, all the textures on car select screen and in-game are messed up, with many appearing in the way of others, and large parts of the car being see-through. On my home Nvidia PC, the same approach still just gives crashes when the demo either boots, or when you try loading a race.

EA are notorious for bad programming especially the turn of the millenium games

Okay, both will work with dgVoodoo, but only in software mode. That's on my Nvidia card. At work, the demo of F1CS2000 works fine on ATI without dgVoodoo (but again, only in software mode).

Both work fine in dgVoodoo DirectX wrapper using 2.45 version with latest WIP files from the dgVoodoo thread: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=34931 (I used WIP version 11.3 from page 63, but it might even work fine with 2.45).

You get the dgVoodoo2 package then put the dgVoodooCpl.exe into the game folder, along with the files in the MS sub-folder. Run the dgVoodooCpl.exe file to configure the wrapper.
