Okay so I have 3 copies of Warcraft III and 2 copies of The Frozen Throne.

Under Windows XP, I simply install the game (version 1.0) and then download the 1.21/1.24 patch and apply, and the game updates itself. This was the latest needed patch and basically added a few maps, lots of unit balancing and the ability to NOT need the CD in the drive to play, which was always welcome.

Under Windows 7 however, I cannot get the patch to work. It always returns a "there has been an error during installation" and no matter how many times I re-download the patch it won't work. I even tried the one that came on a PC-Zone cover CD, same error. The one on my external drive in "patches" folder, which I KNOW works as I have used it for years, will not work either.

After reading around google, there is a "registry fix" which I tried, and this didn't work either.

Anyone know a solution to this? Version 1.0 sucks as the balancing / unit pricing is way off. I just want to play Frozen Throne skirmish and I can't. I refuse to buy the game AGAIN through digital download via Battlenet, I have spent over £100 on copies of WC3 and TFT over the years. Surely theres a way of patching this game under Windows 7 64-bit?
