I've recently started playing Driver for the PC, and I'm having issues related to the BGM.

The music sometimes skips and when it stops on a level, it doesn't loop, and every time I pause and unpause, it plays the main theme song, or if it was already playing, it starts it again... It's kind of a shame, the PC version is superior to the PS1 version is every conceivable way except for this!

Does anyone know of a fix for this?

For WinXpSp3:
Unpatched version sounds ok.
After the official patch - the music restarts constantly.

Asus P4P800 SE/Pentium4 3.2E/2 Gb DDR400B,
Radeon HD3850 Agp (Sapphire), Catalyst 14.4 (XpProSp3).
Voodoo2 12 MB SLI, Win2k drivers 1.02.00 (XpProSp3).

Both of you might also want to specify exactly which version of the game (and patch) you are referring to in order to make sure you are not comparing apples and oranges (US English vs. UK English, etc.) since there were separate patches released for the different versions:

https://web.archive.org/web/20000229235556/ht … iverpc_ftp.html

The issue you both report is not one of those listed in the GT Interactive FAQ:

https://web.archive.org/web/20000229172228/ht … c/driverpc.html

(The remains of) Fileplanet show a pair of patches with Version 2 released later. I presume these are for the US English version:

http://www.fileplanet.com/28220/20000/fileinfo/Driver-Patch
http://www.fileplanet.com/35122/30000/fileinfo/Driver-v2.0

Might be interesting to try the older patch to see if the issue exists with that patch as well.

Patch notes for UK and English versions are the same. I'd guess both versions are pretty identical.

I tried and couldn't get it working, guessing you'll need WinXP for this one for now 🙁

Things not to waste your time with:
_inmm
ogg-winmm (any of the forks currently on githhub)
IgnoreMCISTOP (which actually will get audio playing, but also over cutscenes)

Oh, well I have the EU version, which came with a "levels patch" on the disc...

Hmm, maybe tt's a compatibility issue?

Okay, I found the UK version of the patch, and now I'm getting this problem where after about 5 seconds of the music playing, it stops and plays it from the beginning again. For some reason, it only does this when I'm IN the game, if I Alt+Tab out of it, the music plays as it should...

Exactly.
Well, there were similar bugs with MSS32 games. Jane's Combat Simulations F-15 as the example. To fix them - you must update mss32.dll.
The trouble is - there is no mss32.dll in Driver...

I found a sort-of-fix for the problem, there's a "Vertex Patch" which puts the music issue back to the state it was in before the patch, which is better than nothing, but the problem of pausing and un-pausing restarting the music and playing the main theme instead of the level music, still persists...

Ah, that IS a problem...

Also, I'm now having the issue where on Windows 7 (with D3D setting), the wheels are non existent, and the cars are hovering off of the ground...

Maybe it used it and is a static compile?
