Hello there. I'm desperately trying to get the console working properly for this game via "+ set console 1", but all I'm getting is a useless, solid black screen that won't go away on it's own (ESC gets rid of it, but that's besides the point).

It used to work flawlessly like 5 or 6 years on the exact same hardware and with the exact same drivers; only a slightly different flavor of 32-bit WinXP had been installed.

Any ideas? I did notice what it says about the console, which sounds kind of suspicious, but google doesn't have anything to say about the presumably offending lines.

Here's the log generated by the game operating in debug mode (all settings = default):

Just leaving a record for anybody that may show up in the future asking about the same thing: This appears to be related to permissions, because the console works just fine when the game's installed outside of "C:\Program Files".

Definitely worth a try.

Glad you got it sorted out, mate, and thanks for posting the solution, it's always handy in case anyone else has the same problem and finds the thread via the search function.

I think since Windows Vista (or maybe XP) it's been problematic installing games to C:\PROGRAM FILES\ because Microsoft introduced the permission protection feature to anything in that folder, despite them previously encouraging people to install games there. Good old M$.
