Hello All,
I'm new to the Vogons forums so, what's up?! 😜
I have a question for you guys. I'm trying to get Resident Evil 1 PC working on Windows 10 Home and I've been using a mod depicted here on this site.
https://www.play-old-pc-games.com/2013/03/05/resident-evil/

I'm able to get the game running at the correct speed without any crashing issues, but for some reason, I'm getting no audio. I'm wondering if there's a Settings issue here, Registry or otherwise.
I was able to get it working with the patch, as is, on Windows 7 Pro with no sound issues.

Has anyone else on this forum used this patch before? If so, were you able to get it to work?
BIg thanks!

There is a file in the C:\Program Files (x86)\RESIDENT EVIL for dsound for setup information. Its got values for direct sound. Does any of this need to be changed in Windows 10?
[version]
signature="$CHICAGO$"

[DefaultInstall]
AddReg=add.reg

You say DSOUND, you don't have a soundblaster card by any change, if so creative have theyre own Creative Alchemy app where you can export dsound.dll and dsound.ini to the game root directory

Nah I'm using my Laptop in this case, so no Creative Sound Card. I'm just curious if there was something to do with it being that it can't tap into Windows sound api. I know that on my desktop pc, I can only get sound through just the Realtek chip. I typically use NVidia's HDMI into a spare home theater stereo that I use for my audio. Its not really a big deal since I can still get sound one way or another. Maybe there's a way to specify what sound card you're using, like an enumeration.

Ok here's an update.
I've discovered today doing a totally random test, that I'm able to get sound from Resident Evil!
I plugged my laptop into my tv while messing around with something else and I fired up Resident Evil. Turns out I get can get audio after all! The audio will only work if I plug my laptop into a tv via the HDMI port. Sound on the TV only. Interesting to say the least.
