you might have to switch to an onboard USB controller

Yeah, of course you would do that <facepalm>

Screw period correct; I wanted a faster system back then. I choose no dropped frames, super fast loading, fully compatible and quiet operation.

AMD Ryzen APUs are no go for Win 7. And I heard, that even old boards, that worked before, with Ryzen 3000 BIOSes aren't working anymore.

The bios won't allow booting to windows 7 in UEFI mode? What about a legacy mode?

There was some problem with ACPI, as far as I can remember, and it wasn't solved, not even with new 3000 APUs. On the other hand, AMD never promise official Win 7 compatibility with any Ryzen CPU, so from this point of view it's fine.

Socket 775 - ASRock 4CoreDual-VSTA, Pentium E6500K, 4GB RAM, Radeon 9800XT, ESS Solo-1, Win 98/XP
Socket A - Chaintech CT-7AIA, AMD Athlon XP 2400+, 1GB RAM, Radeon 9600XT, ESS ES1869F, Win 98

AMD still provides X470 chipset driver for Windows 7. So the "Maximum" depends what processor X470 series will support until driver stopped to be updated?

I have win7 running on my X58 X5690 on a plextor PCIe SSD with legacy boot (I used this platform for 10 years as my main machine), and while sure you can get win7 running on newer hardware I got a used X99 as the last "truly" windows 7 compatible HEDT platform, might try to scoop up a 8 or 10 core for it when they become cheaper or if they become cheaper... I paid less for my threadripper than what people were asking for a 5960X at the time.

Recently AMD demostrates stunning performance, in new chips i mean. Who needs greedy and less performance intel?
