I'm running my favorite car game on two Voodoo 2 in SLI, but I cannot find way to increase the resolution from the game's default 640x480. I would like 1024x768, which certainly wouldn't cause any problem for my system to render. Anyone knows some short of trick for this problem?

My high end of '96 gaming machine;
Intel PR440FX - Pentium Pro 200MHz 512K, Matrox Millenium I 4MB, Creative 3D Blaster Voodoo II 12MB SLI, 128MB EDO RAM, Creative Sound Blaster AWE64 Gold, 4x Creative CD reader, Windows 95...

You won't be able to do that with your Voodoo2 SLI because 640x480 is the only one supported by the game itself. However, you can do that with Glide wrappers on much more powerful modern GPUs, which at minimum would scale 640x480 into anything and apply anti-aliasing.

Damn, no solution at all? Nobody hacked it for higher res...? I think now for GlQuake which was released also in the timeframe when only Voodoo1 existed and it can run happily with V2 SLI 1024x768...

That's because GLQuake wasn't a glide game but a GL one and GL didn't really have a hard resolution limit. In 3dfx's cases there, it was about how far their MiniGL was willing to push.

Also a lot of Direct3D-based titles back then also wrote to the pixel buffer, so hacking in higher resolutions isn't as trivial as you think. OpenGL had no capability of doing the same (until the mid-00's) as all 2D elements were carefully crafted 3d planes.

I would not like modern hardware for this game to run higher resolution, i want keep it retro. Here at this topic http://www.nfscars.net/forums/topics/nfs2se-3 … 24/#post-262563 a guy mention double resolution on 3dfx card, he even link files to patch the game. However those links are not working anymore. What do you guys think, could that be real or he fake?

He's doing exactly the same that was already recommended to you, using a glide wrapper.

But I would like with Voodoo 2 higher resolution

what would happen if you use glidos? but replace glide2x.dll's with ones that come with 3dfx driver.
and force 1024x768.
i just wondering does it will work?
just a quick idea, need to test it by someone.

Random topic revival, but this might be possible now:

Resolution patch that still allows you to set Glide3x render, though I have no idea whether or not it will work on any system that also has Voodoo2 support.

Hey,

Random topic revival #2

after houres of testing i want to share my infos...

it doesnt work... ! the Game will run native only in 640*480. The Mod is only for modern system (wont work with 98se or WinXP). On my Win11 PC i can now play @ 3440*1440

I recommand for Retro the full Retro Felling to install from image and just load the Nfs2sea File with 3dfx Support.
