I'm trying to install ID4 on Win7 64 bits but the installer reports I'm running on Windows NT even if I force compatibility mode to Windows 95. If I use Win95 compat mode for the launcher and all the .exes, another warning is displayed saying the game requires 16 million colours and in both cases the installation will not continue. I could not find a guide to install it anywhere. The installer is 16 bits, so I'm using winevdm. Not sure if there's a 32 bit install replacement for this game. I know this game is often rated mediocre but I'm willing to give it a try. In the 90's I was never able to get it running with sound and after the first level, it would freeze.

Did you try any of the Installshield installers?

If all else fails, you could install it in a VM and then port it over.

As teleguy said, you can use the 32 bit IS to see if that worked. But I am very suspicious it won't. carmageddon 2 had such limitation too where you cannot play it without Windows 9x

Independence Day works fine on Windows 10 (so does Carmageddon 2 btw) so it's probably possible to get it working on Windows 7.

That game won't run until you use the WinXP patch, so similarly Independence Day must detect your Os as windoes 9x. But if You are Getting it to work , it must be an updated version.
