Motherboard: unknown
Game name: EF2000 V. 2.0 (Win 95 version)
Description of problem: Game plays at about 3x normal speed, including the time clock in the game. Everything else is fine. Sound works, I can play in a window or full screen. Using Saitek ST90 USB joystick control.
Reproducibility of problem: always
Sound mode used: Sound works
Video mode: All settings to highest quality. It uses Directx 3.0
Steps already attempted to solve the problem: I've tried "Always On" and "Portable/Laptop" in the power settings (resulting in no change in speed), and "Turbo" and "CpuKill 3.0" to slow the processor with unsatisfactory results. I've tried Windows 95 and Windows 98 compatibility modes, but the screen goes black after starting the game. The game runs fine on a Pentium II 450 MHz machine running Win 98 SE. It also runs too fast on my desktop computer which uses an AMD Athlon 2500+ Barton chip and an ATI Radeon 9600 video card.

I have searched the internet and these forums, but haven't found a good solution yet. Please note that this is not the DOS version and will not run in a DOS emulator.

... and if the patches does not work, there is always a few hardware tweaks that might help:

1. Reboot, enter BIOS, and lower your CPU speed.
2. Reboot, enter BIOS, and disable the CPU cache.

The Setup won't let me change the cpu speed or cache. 😠

I think you should try contacting the developers (if possible) or try out some slowdown utility for windows.

Intel i7 5960X
Gigabye GA-X99-Gaming 5
8 GB DDR4 (2100)
8 GB GeForce GTX 1070 G1 Gaming (Gigabyte)

I'll keep after it; I was just wondering if anyone had any success before. Thanks for the suggestions.

eL_PuSHeR,

If I remember the chain of events correctly, the developer's assets (Digital Image Design's) were purchased by Rage Software. Rage was then purchased by Infogrames which is now Atari. While Atari does have a support page for the game, I wouldn't bet money on getting them to do anything for such an old, inherited title.

That was a great idea. I did not know that this game was owned by Atari now. However, it was no help. I did try to turn off hardware accelleration and run in compatibility modes for Win 95 and 98, but I still got the black screen. Thanks again!

Damn! it seems it refuses to load. If you eventually manage to run it succesfully, please tell us how you did it.
