Here my own notes on how to install and run GK2.
Notes to install in dosbox
step 1.
run Dosbox and enter the following to install GK2:
=====================================================
mount C C:\
mount F F:\ -t cdrom
F:
install
=====================================================
where C is the harddrive where you want GK2 installed
and F is the location of the install cdrom (CD 1)
step 2.
change the line located in the RESOURCE.CFG file in
the installed Gabriel Knight folder, with notepad, to
contain all the cdrom drives you are going to use.
=====================================================
CD:=F:; could be for example CD:=F:;G:;H:;I:;
=====================================================
where F, G, H and I are cdrom drives which (might)
contain a Gabriel Knight 2 cdrom.
Notes to run in dosbox
step 1.
run Dosbox and enter the following to run GK1:
=====================================================
mount C C:\
mount F F:\
C:
cd SIERRA\GK2DOS\
SIERRA.EXE
=====================================================
where C is the harddrive where GK2 is installed
and F is the location of the Gabriel Knight cdrom
and SIERRA\GK2DOS is the location of the GK2 folder
if you are using more cdrom drives, mount those too,
like the cdrom drive F is mounted in this example
step 2.
set Dosbox to run at an appropriate speed using
Ctrl+F11 (to slow down) and Ctrl+F12 (to speed up)
in the Dosbox window
further tweaking can be done by adjusting frameskip
using Ctrl+F7 (decrease) and Ctrl+F8 (increase)
notes.
by using too much CPU power, sound might not initiate
sometimes (70% of CPU-usage should be safe)
CD1 always needs to be present in one of the (mounted)
cdrom drives
the cdrom drive that contains the CD that stores the
chapter you are playing, should always be mounted,
as well as the cdrom drive that contains the CD of
the next chapter (since CD swapping often fails)
chapter5 requires both CD5 and CD4, and chapter6
requires both CD6 and CD2
