It's worth mentioning that GOG.com apparently is making the Unreal series of four games available at a 40% discount (at least in the U.S.). Choose the "Buy all series for" option.

This probably has something to do with Epic shutting down their master servers, which seems silly. I think anybody who still plays these games have already been using community master servers for like, well, forever.

I'm sure Tucows uploaded a copy on internet archive for archival purposes, but legally we are not allowed to pirate

Two items I think are interesting relating to Unreal and Unreal II

1.) Steele Dawn
- A community restoration project of a cancelled expansion pack for Unreal

2.) Solaris Base
- An unfinished (but fully playable) Unreal 2 level by Matthias Worch

My favorite Unreal game was UT2003. I have the most memories with that version getting my ass handed to me by friends and family.

I didn't pay attention, it's stuff that's freely redistributable. yay for demos though which are rare these days

The games were already pulled from Steam, so don't bother looking for them there. I got them there, but I'm getting the GOG releases for backups.

It's a bummer Unreal Tournament 2003 wasn't released digitally and isn't in the discounted pack. I mostly played 2004 and loved it, including the vehicles and huge Onslaught maps, but some say 2003 was a little more distilled and more similar to UT99. I would have liked to have it included even if for completeness sake. It's also interesting how the successor to 2004 was UT3, when it should have been UT4 if Epic acknowledged 2003.

ut4 was in alpha so it wasn't a complete release and likely never will be. UT2003 and UT2004 are similar to each other that its considered to be an update.. given ut2003 came out in 2002, and UT2004 came out in 2004 a rarity for sports titles at the time like madden 2003 came out in 2002, I don't know why

UT2004 was originally scheduled for October 2003, and then a bunch of fortnights of delays happened

UT2003's probably less like UT99 than UT2004 is. It was underwhelming originally and the climactic final battle with malcolm was just hide and seek maze without music. also the attempt at a sports announcer was extremely irritating at the time and there's that alienating first impression from the leaks and demo release.

The entirety of UT2003's still in UT2004 and it shouldn't be that difficult for a mod project to restore it.

Heh fortnights were 14 nights or two weeks but I wonder if now Fortnite is just a delayed meme

considering mark rein had '2 weeks' as a catchphrase it's 6450% intentional
