Hi all

I want to play FIFA 2000 in D3D accelerated mode but when I go into the 3D setup program i can't find the option.
I see only Software Render.
Triple Buffering is disabled (obviously) too.
I have an ATI Radeon 9700 PRO with latest drivers for Windows ME.

Is there a way to use this graphics card with this game?

Thank you for suggestions

Yes, but you need to go into the Registry:

You can add something like this, but I don't know what the 3D Thrash driver is called for Direct3D (D3D). Add the thrash driver name for "Thrash Driver"="" <--between the quotes. It will be something generic for Direct3D/D3D. Take a look inside the FIFA installation directory or there might be something already in the registry, or somewhere else online, or examine another EA Sports title like NHL 2000 or something like that from EA around the time period (installed on an earlier graphics card).

====================================================

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EA Sports\FIFA 2000]
"3D Device Description"="ATI Radeon 9700 PRO"
"3D Card"="ATI Radeon 9700 PRO"
"Thrash Driver"=""
"Group"="D3D"
"D3D Device"=dword:00000001
"Triple Buffer"=dword:00000001
"Hardware Acceleration"=dword:00000001
"Thrash Resolution"="1024x768"

=====================================================

The resolution can be 640x480, 800x600, etc.

Radeon HD3850 AGP is detected "from the box".
1) Add the "D3D=1" string in 3DSetup\3DSetup.ini then try 3DSetup.exe again.
2) Install FIFA 2000 3d setup patch (fifa2k3dp.zip, 335.5 kB).
3) Use the method above. "Thrash driver"="dx6".

Asus P4P800 SE/Pentium4 3.2E/2 Gb DDR400B,
Radeon HD3850 Agp (Sapphire), Catalyst 14.4 (XpProSp3).
Voodoo2 12 MB SLI, Win2k drivers 1.02.00 (XpProSp3).

I found the patch on patchscrolls but the old site (.com). On .de web site it does not appear
I tried and now the game detects automatically the graphics card but :
- the triple buffer is disable by defalut. If i change che .ini file setting the voice to 1 it checks: don't know if is right to use it
- in registry the voice "3D Card" is "Unknow D3D": maybe not a problem
- in registry the voice "D3D Device" is set to 0 (zero)
- the game after the boot splash screen "crash" and returns to desktop
- in registry the voice "Thrash Driver" automatically sets on dx

Did you have same problem too?

I've never played the game, but make sure all of the values in the registry are set like this:

"D3D Device"=dword:00000001
"Triple Buffer"=dword:00000001 <---- Doesn't matter other than performance, but you change to "Triple Buffer"=dword:00000000 if you think it's a problem.
"Hardware Acceleration"=dword:00000001
"Thrash Resolution"="640x460" <---- There should be an option in-game to change to higher resolution unless hardcoded (EA NHL '98 is hardcoded to 640x480, for example)

Hi

I tried everything but FIFA 2000 with my Radeon 9700 pro doesn't start.
The game starts but then black screen and return to desktop.
If I use software render in 3D Setup, everything works.
Anyway maybe I will change the video card so do you have suggestions for a good video card in order to play old games like FIFA2000?
My idea was an NVidia GeForce3 Ti 200 or a GeForce2

The retro PC has the follow hardware:

  • Pentium 3 Tualatin 1,4 Ghz
  • Asus TUV4x (AGP 4X)
  • 512 Mb RAM PC 133

You'll have to go through the same process as the ATI. This game is looking for older cards than any GeForce 2/3. You won't do any worse than you are presently, so it doesn't hurt to try.

However, I found this ATI patch. It includes older ATI cards, but it at least has a Radeon option. Give it a try.
