PhilsComputerLab suggests using 3.47:

https://www.philscomputerlab.com/daemon-tools … windows-98.html

With 3.47 I get this in a popup when Windows starts:

"C:\WINDOWS\daemon.dll error!"

With 3.17, it works, but 3.17 has less functionality and I'd really like to use 3.47.

I've tried running instmsia.exe, however, I have the latest service pack so this is already installed (and that is the message I receive when I try to run this .exe).

There's almost nothing about this error on Google, and nothing with any solution or real advice.

Any ideas?

It works fine for me on Windows 98... Why not try wiping Windows and reinstalling and don't use the service pack this time?

I found a solution!

Service Pack 3 actually works fine.

The culprit was KernelEx, uninstalled that and both 3.44 and 3.47 works.

KernelEx + Daemon Tools 3.47 work great together. Before installing Daemon Tools 3.47 on a clean system, you need to update InstMsiA (In general, it is advisable to do this first thing after installing Windows, in order to avoid this and other similar problems).

But yes, it may also depend on the basic settings of KernelEx, when installing the product, when you are asked to choose one of two options:

* Enable KernelEx extensions for all applications (recommended)
* Disable KernelEx extensions

You may have used the first one.
