Ignore this post!

Don't download and run this.

@robertmo3, could you try this build:

[HOLD off. Don't run this].
https://1drv.ms/u/s!As-dKk-N73dSmHk-dKxvBYHRfzcU?e=vniFrW
MD5: b32d7ee3fa7be3288bfad0407450172c

Keep dosbox in it's own folder.

The CPU load should be more manageable. I just hope it's not a pipe timeout or something.

[EDIT] RLauncher remembers the dosbox folder, so you should probably copy it into the dosbox folder.

I'm testing on an oct-core system. My dual core machines are Intel HD based and have issues running it. Both my spare GPUs are now dead so I can't tell if it's a GPU problem or a CPU one. One of them is a laptop. The game audio does playback with this build on the Intel machines. Graphically on Intel HD I get the splash screen and a static frame or splash and a black screen.

you should be able to disable as many cores as you want in bios

True, but I only power off or reboot at the end of day. Will test that in a bit.

That's a good test.

Your performance issues are down to the CPU being overloaded.

I'm making some other changes as well. It'll be a few days before the next build.

yeah works only slightly slower on 2 cores.

1 core plays demo race with 4fps
the actual game plays fine, just the screen updates are delayed and at 0.0 fps 😉 (i was able to notice a second frame of the game after a very long time)
but i hear cars passing by at full speed and i can drive no problems 😉

why do you need so much cpu power?
my pc can run cyberpunk 2077

Threads busy waiting, checking for messages. It goes like this:

[Start]
If there's data process it.
got to Start

I did start out with wakeup notifications, but disabled them because of other problems. So they're going right back in.

Ok now for another round of testing.

It runs in dual core +hyperthreading mode on my Ryzen with stutters.
Once the thunderstorm stops I'll test quad core.

I think I've found the cause of pipe comms instability.

It appears to be cpu load related.

RReady's webserver will be down for maintenance on May 04 for 2 hours. It will be inaccessible, i. E. no game patches or demos can be downloaded either manually or via auto-download.

Apologies in advance for the 3 people using RReady.

Ironically we have storms and thunderstorms here too for about half a month now.

I wanted to ask if there's a minimum Intel HD Graphics limitation for RReady. I have a Win7 Ivy Bridge machine and I am looking forward to test it there sometime.

(asking since I will need to transfer games)

@Been-nath58 El Nino/Indian Ocean Dipole is what's causing the storms according to the local weather people. The days are unbearably hot and it rains like crazy at night. The storms only started 4-5 days ago for Sri Lanka. I shouldn't complain, @Raven-05 is facing missiles.

[EDIT] The bare minimum is Sandy Bridge (OpenGL 3.3/GLSL 1.50 Compatibility Profile) in terms of APIs. Geforce 8800 might work as well. I no longer have one of these
to test.

My original target for RRedline was Sandy Bridge. *Some * games do run fine. Others have graphical defects with Sandy Bridge. Newer chips have fewer errors but some games (like SODA don't work very well. The menus don't work at all. GPL has issues as well. Front buffer effects like VH2's loading progress bars don't work on ay Intel HD CPU, barring adding a discrete GPU).

For Speedy3D, the CPU requirements will be higher, but I suspect most games should render correctly. I've got Dosbox-Rendition/RReady's CPU load down to 3 cores almost fully loaded. This is on a 4 GHz CPU so that's not as pleasant as it sounds. I'll do some more testing and tweaking. FIFO mode has lots of issues. So the Dosbox<-->DosClient comms have to be re-written to work better.

Did you get Interstate '76 going or does it still silently RTD?

[EDIT] It doesn't run without DxWnd,. It won't work with any other DDraw wrappers.

Another go:

Note this is a real alpha. The quality of the software may be iffy.

CPU load should be much much lower. Quad-core recommended. Bugs abound (Nascar 2/1999 might not run).

CPU/framerate issues aren't because of Dosbox, it's all related to the implementation of Dosbox-Rendition and Dosclient.
