Okay, as you know I have a 386 build and a win98 build, well I meant to say my completed builds are a 386 and a windows 98se I have a 846sx that is just collecting dust in the corner, it has a soundblaster pro2, now I was wondering, yes I have drivers for the sb pro 2 but I was wondering could I put the sb pro2 card in my windows 98 build and just switch between the sb16 and sbpro by using the device manager?

Um, this is kinda needless, I got the sbpro 2 working in my native dos machine.

I really like the Sound Blaster Pro 2. My favourite card from Creative.

of course you can, just adjust the hardware ressources properly. see my sig for multiple soundcards in one system (all are working under win98 for each system)

PC#1: K6-III+ 400 | 512MB | Geforce4 | Voodoo1 | SB Live | AWE64 | GUS PNP Pro
PC#2: 486DX2-66 | 64MB | Riva128 | AWE64 | GUS PNP | PAS16
PC#3: 386DX-40 | 32MB | CL-GD5434 | SB Pro | GUS MAX | PAS16

For some cards it is better to have more than one. Some cards become buggy when you ask them to perform too many tasks at the same time so splitting the workload between two or more cards eliminates a lot of issues. Also, there is no such thing as a "perfect" sound card. There were too many competing standards that were incompatible with each other so you'll never find one card that does it all. You'll need multiple cards to cover all the popular standards that existed.

that would be cool if you could SLI two sound cards together and get 20 more sounds per second on games.

DOOM before soundcard sli:
78.6 sounds per second

DOOM after soundcard sli
95.4 sounds per second

DMX doesn't work that way. Sound in Doom is always software mixed. SLI'ing sound cards, even in theory, won't help that.

Wait, so if i have 3x CT2230 (I have 3 SB16's) in my PC it will improve sound performance?

Can any one explain a bit?

I've got sb32 and sblive! in win98 PC, works flawless. live! has really clear and pure sound, while sb32 provides authentic MIDI and stuff. Control panel => Mullimedia to switch.

In my Dual MMX box, I have a CMI8330 for hosting the XR385, and an AWE64 Gold for everything else.

My 486 has a GUS, SBPro2, and MPU-IPC-T & MT-32, the place is like sound card city!
