Digging through some old boxes I found my old Hercules Stingray 128/3D (8M) video card. I was wondering if this would be better than my planned S3 Virge GX + Voodoo 2 setup. Opinions?

Usage is probably going to be a mix of DOS and Windows 98 gaming. System is a Pentium 233 MMX. Full specs are listed here:

I haven't had any of the combinations, but IMHO the answer is a big NO.

Voodoo Rush is a 2D+3D card that drains less energy than any two card combination. On the other hand, Voodoo 2 is more powerful than Voodoo Rush, and S3 cards have more compatibility than the 2D part of the rush. If the S3 and the Voodoo 2 are compatibles (there were some incompatibilities), I'd stick with those two cars.

I agree, go with the S3 + Voodoo 2.
The Rush is actually based off the Voodoo 1, and was noticeably slower than a single, separate Voodoo 1 card. So a Voodoo 2 would be significantly faster.

I had a Voodoo Rush with a Macronix 2D chipset and although I never really had any incompatibilities, its was much slower than the same system with a Voodoo 2.

Rush cards can be blurry. Plus the Rush chipset is similar to Voodoo1 but not entirely compatible with it so games often needed patches for it. Not good.
