This may just be my bad memory, wonder if anyone knows better.

Just got a 5.25 floppy drive, works fine but....

- it doesn't eject disks when you open the latch - I can't remember if they used to. Just wondering if mine is bust or if that's how they were...? Feel weird not knowing cos for a few years I ran a two-floppy, 5.25 no-HD system where I worked!

- you feel friction on the disk as you insert and pull it out. Is that normal? I don't remember this, but I do recall 3.5's seeming just so-o-o much better so maybe this is also normal.

IIRC, 5.25 didn't eject. I have my 5.25 at home so I'll check.

As for friction I can't really remember....I'll check.

Some did, some did not. Even when they did, it was not exactly "eject," more like "release." If your drive has space for fingers to grab the disk then "no eject" is normal. I have Epson dual floppy drives and those have no space for fingers -- the disk moves out by about 1cm when I open the latch.
Friction may be normal as well. 5.25" floppies really varied in total thickness so it may depend on floppy. As long as drive is able to rotate disk inside the envelope, it's ok.
