Probably best to start with a list of games you want to play, and any hardware bits [like particular cards] you want to use.

For example if you want to network the PC, to run V2s in SLI and to have a Gravis Ultrasound and AWE32 you will probably need 3-4 PCI slots and 3-4 ISA slots, depending on exactly which cards you go for.

Without knowing more, I'd say use the 450mhz machine [presumably a k6 not an athlon?].

I don't know many of these games. Doom 1 and 2 and Duke Nukem 3D would run with any of the cards you suggest, and lesser cards [eg. 4mb S3 Trio, even a 1mb ATi Mach 64 I seem to recall].

Have seen somewhere on this forum someone suggest a TNT2 plus V2 SLI for maximum compatibility.
