I am stuck. I don't know where to look for the answers to all the Info suggested I give concerning my hardware. I have a Dell Dimension, Pentium 4, 1.6 Ghs, 128 MB Ram. The game is: Tombraider 1
Last October, I downloaded VDMSound, Launchpad, Glide and updated my file tomb.exe with a version I got off th EIDOS website. I don't remember which one it was. Everything was working great, except I couldn't hear Lara's footsteps, doors opening/closing, animal or creature noises, etc. I could hear background music (ambience?). So I tried the tombraidersforum site, with some suggestions from regular members there, and Paul - at Glidos - I finally got to hear everybody talking during the FMV's, and I could hear Lara, the animals - IT WAS GREAT!
When I got to the end of the first leve, The Caves, I couldn't go on with the game. It just stalled on the statistics screen, showing kills, pickups, etc. I couldn't save, exit, nothing. I had to use Task Manager to close down.
So then I tried to go back to what I had before, at least I could play the whole game, but now I can't get anything to work.
I downloaded the new 1.20 version of Glidos, previously I ran on 1.19. I uninstalled and reinstalled VDMSound and the launchpad. I never have been able to install TR1 the way Paul says to on Glidos. When I try installing using the C:\prompt, my screen goes black, or I get a really garbled up screen of the words 'Tomb Raider', running off the screen, and I can't do anything but exit. The only way I could use Glidos before, was to copy all files from my CD to a manually created tombraid directory.
Now, I can't get anything to work. I start Glidos, it goes to the command screen, I try to make it a full screen, but before I can do that, the screen goes white, then starts from the left to go black and quits. No matter what I do, nothing works.
I am not computer savvy, so keep everything simple, step by step. I am currently trying to use tomb.exe dated 2-2-98 with 873,739 bytes, which I believe is the 3dfx version, voodoo or UF version. I got it from Bokkie on the tombraider forum. He appeared to know what he was talking about and got raves from everyone else.
I appreciate all help you can give me.
