You could try booting linux and wine'ing it

Tested windows wine, but nothing and im not getting a second operative system to fix this.

Ok so here's the deal.
Virtual PC,blah blah blah...
Forget about that crap.Silver is a 10 years old game so that can't be good.
Your first and BEST option would be to build an old PC with Windows 98.
But since you can't do that I presume there is a patch that fixes incompatibilities.

I never understand the hate for Virtual PC, it work perfect for me (just run the darn thing to fast) I tested that patch i have try to get silver to work for years. This is not my first time. So I know everything, every patch that is out there for silver.

I know what is needed now:

In the demo then you press Esc you get this

This is how it look in retail

If I can get Pause (as seen in first post) to act like then I press Esc in retail then crash might go away. And i looked it is all in the exe file. So if someone here is good at hex editing or what ever now is needed to do this, plz do help. I have spore discount (from buying creature creator) and Half-life 2 and Ep1 on steam to offer in return.

I don't get it. If the retail version works fine when you pause it but the demo does not, then why do you even want to run the demo?

What if you run Throttle under Windows along with Virtual PC? That ought to slow down the animations. (Don't use Throttle within Virtual PC; that probably won't work.)

NO the demo let us know that the back ground is all in the exe, i don't want to run the demo but there are actions that act like Esc menu in the retail and I want them gone. Using the demo exe we can compare the line of code needed to make it look like then you press Esc in the retail version.

And the Retail crash if you pause it, I want the pause screen to look like the Esc screen in retail version.

the demo doesnt have a background it just pauses the game and changes the colour of the pixels

your problem is probably driver related

I was confusing the Escape screen with the Pause screen. I get it now.

So what about Throttle?

There were some cpu slowdown utilities on the net that allow you to play older games.

Haven't tested any and i can't because my only windows PC died of BIOS failure and my laptop is running Linux.
