Greetings, I have a Yamaha soundcard Model YMF701 with a NEC DB50XG daughtercard installed on my retrogaming PC, so far no problems in DOS, the only annoying thing is having to manually run the "Setup.exe" to launch the Yamaha SAx Mixer to activate the sound everytime I turn on my PC.

The only serious issue I have is when playing MIDI files under Windows98, I don't know why but the volume is too low, I need to stick my ear to my sound boxes in order to hear something, even turning the volume at max.

I also tried turning up the volume in Windows sound panel, but the slider that controls the MIDI volume is off, I just can't move it.

There any way to increase volume of the DB50-XG device under Windows 98?

I have Windows 98SE and DOS 7.1, the system boots under DOS 7.1

The drivers that I have are the only drivers I could find on internet for this sound card, I need to run the Yamaha SAx Mixer in DOS if i want to activate sound (both in DOS and Windows).

windows 95,98,98SE: http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/4/...6835/YMF95.rar

Is the problem also present in pure dos?
Your card should be similar to these ones:

I don't have any problems under DOS, I can also play games with general midi music under windows just fine, the only problem that I have is that I just can't play midi files using the windows media player when I select the MPU-401 port as the default midi player device, I do get sound but the volume is too low.

My card is very similar to the one shown there, not the same but it's also an Addonics card.
