I noticed some random crashing and reboots of my gaming rig in the past week or so.

Today, I was getting them almost everytime I ran a game.

I noted the same error code nearly every time so I checked things out further.

Seems to be related to failing or faulty RAM.

I have the above listed mobo with 4 x 2GB Corsair DDR2/800MHz memory modules installed.

Immediately I ran my Ultimate Boot CD and ran Memtest 86+ and it noted hundreds of memory errors within the first few minutes.

I then power off the machine, waited a couple of minutes to let things cool down and unplugged the power.

I then removed all but the first module and ran the memtest app again, let it run through at least one pass to verify the module.

It passed along with the next 2 modules and I'm currently testing the fourth unit out.

So far this is telling me it's working fine and all modules amy indeed be ok.

Since Phenom 2 CPU's have onboard memory controllers, it could indeed be possible that this is at fault and not the ram, maybe only occurs when you have more then one module installed, maybe works with 2 or even 3 modules installed but then fails when a fourth stick is installed.

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated, thanks 😀

P.S. I was in the market for a new mobo and ram as I have a model 955 AM3 cpu which will upgrade nicely with one of these boards...

Phenom 2?

4 sticks should be fine, just leave the speed at AUTO (no overclocking).

Did you overclock at all?

isnt that board supposed to use 1066mhz ram with a phenom2 ?

I supports 800/1066/1200 speed DDR2 memory modules.

@Mau1wurf1977, no I didn't overclock at all.

I will reset the defaults for the BIOS and try again.

So far testing with only two sticks of ram seems to be working, going to play some games and see what happens and then run memtest the rest of the time...

EDIT: Seems to be working fine with 2 modules but not 4 modules.

I'm thinking of going to Fry's and get a new DDR3 mobo with 8GB of ram.

Well I ended up making a monthly pilgramage to Frys on Sunday and got a 890FX Mobo along with 8GB of DDR3 ram, it's running so well now.

I ended up getting a third party high-end CPU Cooler and it's running much cooler then the stock configuration 😀

Nice!

Ram is very cheap right now, at least here in Australia...
