Is there another alternative out there for external battery packs instead of the old AT-style 4xAA? I'm thinking something like a case/holder for a CR2032 or similar. I know I could make one, what have some of you done? My old 486 PC does not like the 4xAA battery pack for some reason.

Coin cell holder + CR2032 + hot glue / superglue. Et voila; a neat, onboard, modern style battery pack. It will take you about 20 minutes to do.

Cool, thanks I think I found something on-line to help me with this. I'll check around.

I just did this to my 286 to replace the leaking onboard battery - the coin cell holder was about 0.75 gbp, the coin cell, glue and wire to go from the cell holder to the motherboard battery header were all from my 'bits box, but if buying new would only cost 1 to 2.00 gbp anyway. It really is so cheap to replace these onboard batteries - be glad you don't have a nasty Dallas rtc with built-in suicide battery!
