I've been trying to get an old 486 going but I don't have a reliable disk drive for it. I was lamenting that I couldn't use flash memory for a drive because of a lack of USB boot support. But I thought, maybe someone makes a USB card that has a BIOS overlay or something to allow you to boot? So I did a search and found something even BETTER:

DOM, or Disk on Module. Did any of you know about these? I did a forum search but didn't pull anything up.

Apparently these will work fine with a 486 machine. I'm going to order one and give it a try!

You might also want to look at a Compact Flash card and a CF-IDE adapter. You can get these cards and adapters pretty cheap and they seem to work pretty well under DOS. I also use one in my Amiga 1200 😀
