Can someone explain the benefits of this setup described on queststudios site? Why would one need all three -- I thought the Goldfinch card and the MIDI DB's accomplish the same tasks.

I thoutght the goldfinch card just upgraded sb16 to awe32. That will play midi by loading soundfonts.
A daughterboard is in effect a hard coded sound font, and the sounds on it will be different from soundfonts available to load on the goldfinch. I don't suppose you can get an XG soundfont, so you can't make a goldfinch do what a db50xg can.
Just gives you a wider range of midi sounds.
I may mess around with it on my 486...just for something to configure.
