Hey guys, ive got this Pentium PRO that works perfectly with out CD ROM.

Once i attach a CD rom it wont turn on at all. The fans spin and when i turn it off a beep sound is issued.
I tried 3 different CD ROMs and an SCSI CD ROM controlled by and Adaptec card.

I think that the PSU doesnt have enough juce.
Any one got any idea on whats going on?

Specs:

P Pro 180Mhz
96MB EDO
30GB HDD (will install a smaller one latter)
MATROX GPU

Was thinking of using it with GUS max for some games.

Sounds reasonable.

If you have a second computer handy, then for troubleshooting purposes you can plug the second computer's power supply into the CD-ROM while leaving its IDE cable connected to the Pentium Pro. It looks a little weird, but it works.

Yeah, i was thinking of that too, to jump start an other PSU.
But, the thing worked flawlessly with more components a few months ago...
Im gonna get a newer PSU and try convert it.

[Edit]

Yup:

12V Rail 9.95V
5V Rail 4.65V

[Edit 2]

Found an other AT PSU
Works now 😀

Unplug the HDD, remove RAM (apart from 1 stick), remove any other cards and see if the drive then works.

Is this IDE? Does the machine POST when you only hook up the power to the drive (and no IDE/SCSI cables)?
