I've been trying to get the external MPU-401 port on my Ensoniq Soundscape S2000 to work in DOS. So far it will only use the internal wavetable synth and not send any MIDI commands to the external port.
I've copied the SNDSCAPE directory from my Windows 95 machine to the DOS machine and altered AUTOEXEC.BAT. The card does now initialize correctly and it works in DOS, it only complains during bootup that it cannot find SYSTEM.INI (which of course does not exist on this machine).
Running the same card (in a different machine) under Windows 95 I have to select which MIDI option to use: either the internal wavetable or the external port.
Is there a way to do this in MS-DOS? A switch in SSINIT.EXE maybe? Or can I alter the SNDSCAPE.INI to change this?

SSINIT has an option to choose between the internal synth and an external synth. The SSINIT GUI simply alters SNDSCAPE.INI, but I don't know the variable you need for this.

Thanks, I'll put the card back in the Windows 95 machine, change the MIDI setup and see what happens to the SNDSCAPE.INI file.

Update: I think I found the switch. It should say: ExtMidi=True. Will test it later.

Another update: it's working now! I just overlooked this switch in SNDSCAPE.INI; it was set to false and I just changed it to true.
